Values
For every tree logged for our mines, we want to plant three trees in Europe, which seems to us to be the only ethically viable way to go, given the deforestation of European old-growth forests during the industrial revolution that developing countries like Myanmar are still facing. We at Minerals for Peace and Future consider rice and other food alms in exchange for rainforest protection as neo-colonial Luddism.
We also want to empower women to work in our companies in administration and production and therefore give them the opportunity to achieve financial autonomy through the mining business.
Security and Privacy is very important to us. Our team consists of trained security analysts who will not hesitate to act proactively and by any means necessary.
Our experienced analysts conduct due diligence in collaboration with local partners to meet due diligence requirements regarding the avoidance of modern slavery, financial crime, corruption, human rights, environmental protection and sanctions, etc., with respect to our supply chains. Our experienced local security partners use overt and covert techniques to shed light on past actions and connections and uncover intentions, capabilities, and key facts necessary to conduct our business without international issues. We act aggressively and offensively when necessary and appropriate to protect our employees. We locate and monitor individuals who wish to steal assets or who are of interest for general self-protection reasons.
Our standard screening process consists of two methods:
In extended due diligence, we conduct in collaboration with our local security partners qualitative interviews with individuals who know the company or person of interest most intimately, supported by desk research and analysis. In addition, standard due diligence takes place even before contact is made, i.e. an in-depth KYC and OSINT check of information that is often hidden in databases or otherwise has to be brought out with operators, but is in principle open to public scrutiny, in conjunction with a review of the legal requirements, power structures and security risks or conflicts of the production location in question.
